Russell Christoff is a millionaire fifteen times over thanks to Nestle’s failure to obtain his consent to use his image on the label of their Taster’s Choice coffee. Christoff was a model for a Taster’s Choice ad in 1986, but he never knew that his face would become a trademark of the brand on shelves across North America. The staggering verdict against Nestle was based on Christoff’s “right of publicity,” which in many states precludes use of a person’s image for profit without his consent.
