Ad Law Glossary

The Ad Law Glossary is a feature of the Advertising Law Blog that defines important terms in advertising and advertising law. The list is a work in progress. If you have any recommended additions or changes, please e-mail me.

  • DTC – an abbreviation for “direct-to-consumer” advertising.
  • FCC – an abbreviation for the “Federal Communications Commission.”
  • FDA – an abbreviation for the “Food and Drug Administration.”
  • FTC- an abbreviation for the “Federal Trade Commission.”
  • PTO – an abbreviation for the “Patent and Trademark Office.”
  • TM – an abbreviation for “trademark” that is also used in superscript by trademark owners to indicate a claim of rights in a trademark (for example, Coca-Cola™).
  • USPTO – an abbreviation for the “United States Patent and Trademark Office.”
